Labor Day is much more than the end of summer. It is a holiday unlike most others, honoring not public figures or war victories, but the everyday worker, or anybody who has ever held a job in the United States.

In New York City, on the first Monday in September 1884, the Knights of Labor -- an early labor organization -- held a large parade to celebrate working people. Later that decade, labor organizations around the country began to lobby various state legislatures for recognition of Labor Day as an official holiday. In 1887, the first states to declare it a state holiday were Oregon, Colorado, New York, Massachusetts, and New Jersey. In 1894, Congress established Labor Day as a national holiday.

Statistics tell us that the two most popular months for festivals and events are April and October.  So we thought it might be a good idea to address one of the basic elements for any successful club event:  the event publicity poster.

For many of us, sending and receiving e-mail is the way we begin and end our days and it often takes up a lot of our time throughout the day.  It makes sense to have some ground rules to follow as we write emails, so that we can treat each other with courtesy and respect.

Here’s a list of some things to consider when you write emails.

We get a lot of questions about browsers like:  "Which one is best?  How do I know which browser version I'm using?" And even, "What is a browser?"   So we thought it would not be wasted time to do a post with some of the basics about browsers.  So here goes.  Browse on through our browser brain food.

Remember that game show, “The Weakest Link?"  On the show, people were asked a series of questions to test their brainpower in a high pressure, timed environment.  If they weren’t fast enough or answered too many questions incorrectly, they were ousted from the group and were rudely told that they were the “weakest link.”  What a trip down memory lane!

Likewise, weak links, or even worse, dead links on your website are not a good thing.  They make visitors feel like the website administrator doesn't really care about the content on the website.  In this post let’s take a close look at the value of links on your site and how to make them work for you.

Links between websites are a fundamental part of the web. In fact, links are what makes the Internet. Links to your website are a very important part of the way search engines (Google in particular) rank your site.

Often our clients are confused about which fonts are best to use for their websites and ask us which font is the best.

The answer to this question is both easy and a little complicated. There are the highly necessary standard fonts for websites as well as well as any font that can be embedded into an image and loaded onto a website.

I’d like to clear up this confusion and provide some solid “web font” advice.

Using keyboard shortcuts can often cut your data input time in half.  We use lots of shortcuts and often mention them to clients, who are amazed that these functions are available.  You may find some that are helpful, some that are good to know and some that you just can't live without.  We've compiled a list of keyboard shortcuts that we use frequently and recommend to everyone .  We’ve divided these useful tools into two categories:  Basic PC Shortcut Keys and Keyboard Shortcuts for Web Browsing.

Attendance has been low, fewer members are participating in projects and events, and no new members are joining. You’re worried about your club’s future.

What do you do?

Here are a few ideas we’ve gleaned from the web, and some of our clients, that may help you rev up your club’s enthusiasm and give you something to consider.

Can you read this?

“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, neque velit suspendisse nunc mattis, eu duis vel viverra tortor, a massa feugiat, felis volutpat ut ultrices sit ante tincidunt. Amet fermentum, etiam lacus neque nonummy est mauris, urna nunc sagittis.”

You can’t? Good! We can’t either. And neither can 99.999% (approximately) of the people on this planet.

That’s the whole point of Lorem Ipsum — meaningless, gibberish text that can’t be read or understood and yet can flow naturally in a design layout. It’s actually one of those little-known design tools that are very important to the design process.

Here’s the scenario.  Connect 2 Clubs has built a beautiful website for your club.  It’s launched to rave reviews from most of your members, except one that complains that the site is all jumbled and can’t be viewed.  So you call us, and the first question that we will ask is, “What browser is that member using?”  Chances are that browser is Internet Explorer 6.
