Many clubs like to add an Events Module to their home page so that member's can get a quick look at upcoming events of the club. This SubCalendar is tied to the main Events Module of the web site so that changes are done only in one place. Here's how to do that:
- Add the Events Module to the page in the pane where you would like it to appear.
- Once it added, go to the settings, (by mousing over the arrow next to the module title or clicking on the pen and pad in the lower left corner of the module).
- Remember to remove the 'Printer' and 'Min/Max' icons by unchecking the 'Allow Print?' and clicking 'None' next to 'Collapse/Expand:' and uncheck the "Display Container?' box if you don't want the title of the module to be visible.
- Expand the options for 'Event Module Settings' (the default name, if you haven't renamed the module) by clicking on the '+' in front of the words.
- In General Setting:
- Theme/Skin should be set to Events, but you may choose another option--your choice--you can always return it to where it was if you don't like the way the others look.
- Default Module View is best as a List, but again you may like one of the other options better.
- Check the 'Only View?' box to lock the visitors' view mode, thus removing the other options from appearing on the page--it looks cleaner that way.
- These additional boxes should be checked:
- -Disable Category Select
- -Permit Recurring Events
- -Enable DNN Search, so the search engines can find your listings
- Choose the Event List Settings that you like - I like 'Select Number of Events' next 5 (or whatever you like) so it doesn't run too far down the page
- The most important setting to link it to your Event page is in 'SubCalendars Settings':
- Check 'Include Other Site Event Modules?'
- At 'Add Other Event Module' add the module title as it appears on your Events page.
NOTE: When adding events, only add them through the main Event module, as it will get confusing if not. This is a subcalendar of that so an event added to the subcalendar will not appear in the main Event module.
Remember that while you're working on this and testing settings, you can keep it out of the view of your web site visitors until it's just right and you're ready to go live with it. To do this:
* Go to the Module Settings at the top of the Settings page of the module
* Uncheck the 'Inherit View Permissions...' box
* The locks will disappear in the 'View Module' column
* Uncheck the all boxes except the Administrator--that box is always locked anyway
* Update and play!
* If you log out of your admin acct. you will see that it is no longer visible.
